About Government Polytechnic Palanpur

Government Polytechnic Palanpur (GPP) is a premier government technical institute located in Palanpur, the administrative headquarters of Banaskantha district in North Gujarat, India. Established in 1984 by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat, GPP has been at the forefront of providing quality technical education to the youth of the region.

The institute is affiliated with Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad, and is situated on a sprawling 20+ acre campus outside Malan Gate on the Ambaji Road, Palanpur. Over the decades, GPP has grown from a modest institution offering three diploma programs to a multi-disciplinary polytechnic offering six programs with a combined annual intake of 330 students.

GPP has consistently maintained high academic standards and is committed to the holistic development of students through education, research, innovation, and extracurricular activities. The institute actively participates in government initiatives such as SSIP and has earned NBA accreditation for three of its programs.

Establishment

Government Polytechnic Palanpur was established by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat, to provide quality technical education to the youth of Banaskantha district and surrounding regions.

First Programs Launched

The institute started with two diploma programs: Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering, with an initial intake of students from across North Gujarat.

1988
1988

Mechanical Engineering Program

The Mechanical Engineering program was introduced to meet the growing industrial demand for skilled mechanical engineers in the region.

1990s
1990s

Infrastructure Growth

Significant expansion of academic buildings, laboratories, workshops, and hostel facilities. The campus spread across 20+ acres near Malan Gate on Ambaji Road, Palanpur.

Instrumentation & Control Engineering Program

The Diploma in Instrumentation & Control Engineering was introduced, run by the Instrumentation & Control Department for over two decades before admissions were later discontinued.

Electronics & Communication Engineering

The Electronics & Communication Engineering program was introduced, responding to growing demand for skilled professionals in the electronics and telecom sector.

2008
2008

GTU Affiliation

Until 2008, diploma programs across Gujarat — including at GPP — were affiliated with the Technical Examination Board (TEB), Gujarat, rather than a university. That year, Government Polytechnic Palanpur transitioned to affiliation with the newly formed Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad. Affiliation No.: GTU/INST_AFFI/626/2012-13/677.

2020

IC Engineering Admissions Discontinued

Admissions to the Diploma in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, running since 1993, were discontinued, though several of the department's faculty continue to serve at the institute.

2021
2021

First NBA Accreditation

Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering received their first NBA (National Board of Accreditation) accreditation, a formal recognition of the institute's academic and infrastructural quality.

2022

Information & Communication Technology Program

The Electronics & Communication Department introduced the Diploma in Information & Communication Technology (ICT), with an intake of 78 students, expanding into networking, cybersecurity, and data communication.

2023
2023

Information Technology Program

ACPDC introduced a Diploma in Information Technology program. The EC Department initially managed it with its own faculty and labs for about 1.5 years, after which the Instrumentation & Control Department's remaining faculty took over, hiring visiting faculty as needed to run the program.

2024

NBA Re-Accreditation

Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering were re-accredited by NBA, valid from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2027, reaffirming the institute's commitment to academic excellence.
